Wild Research featured on WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition – Field Notes

Thane Maynard, CEO of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, interviews Laura and Sam Wells regarding their interactive experiences with the “Wild Pack” and Wild Research stations at the Zoo, including interactive stations at the leaf-cutter ant and gorilla exhibits and more!

Wild Research is designed to deepen public engagement in science and conservation at zoos, aquariums, and similar learning environments nationwide. Conducted with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden and a consortium of partner zoos and aquariums, Wild Research involves families directly in research and conservation action through Wild Research stations, participatory learning media, and education programs.

Class News: Miamians In Baja ‘09

Miami University’s alumni publication, The Miamian, recently included the participation of five university alumni, Roberta Phillips ‘80, Rich Lewis ‘91, Georgia O’Hara ‘97, Jill Korach ‘00, and Joe Beringer ‘06, in the 2009 Field Expeditions course, Baja: Master’s Field Methods in its “Class News.” The group is shown standing in front of a bluewhale skeleton at the Vermillion Sea Field Station in Bahía de Los Ángeles, Baja California.

I woke up and stepped out of my tent with a morning view of Kilimanjaro and the sounds of wildlife. It’s not possible for me to explain the thrill of knowing you are waking up in the African bush, a place that most people in the world will never visit, but I hope you will get a sliver of the story I continue to play in my head.
